Etsy Find: Vintage Lace Wedding Garter

I've mentioned before that I'm not a huge fan of garters, but sometimes one will pop up on Etsy that is so pretty it should be mentioned to the world!

This garter can be found at PetereneDesign on Etsy, and is only $30. You will receive both pictured, one as a keepsake and one to toss at the reception! It's made out of three rows of vintage lace and accented with a sweet bow. How Victorian/Naughty!
There are other garters available, and you can also find hair clips and dresses, too!

The Sex

Since we're always covering the romantic side here, let's cover the sex side! Sure, a majority of couples are too tired to bother with the act on the actual wedding night, but there's always the honeymoon.

There's a great list on the WeTV website with tips on how to accessorize your lingerie. Let's face it, men and women enjoy visuals. Shoes and costumes are a classic way to ignite some excitement into the bedroom, and I am going to tell you one of my favorite affordable sources for hot shoes and even hotter costumes!

ElectriqueBoutique.com is a great source for all things sexy, and not only items that belong behind closed doors! You can find a huge range of shoes and other accessories, starting at $5 and working their way up! There are all sorts of costumes, from Naughty French Maids to plus-sized Queen of Hearts costumes.

They also carry classic lingerie and several types of undergarments, including: bras, bodystockings, and teddies. Be sure to check with the size chart before ordering intimate items, because due to health codes those types of products cannot be returned.

Not only is this a great site for the bride, but it is also a great place to find fun and unique bachelorette AND bachelor party gifts.

MANHUNT!

I've been MIA this week due to another party I am in charge of - a friend's bachelorette party! I am really excited about the things I put together. Hopefully she will like it. One of the games we are playing is "Bachelorette Manhunt," aka "Find the Guy." There is a card game out there of this, but I decided to break us up into teams and have to find all of the men on the list. Here's the list I put together:

Cowboy Guy
Mullet Guy
Mustached Guy
Muscle Guy
Bald Guy
Guy named Ron
Guy with tattoos
Guy in a Detroit Tigers hat
Gay Guy
Married Guy
Old Guy
Jock Guy
Bartender Guy
Sports Jersey Guy
Tortured Artist Guy
Full-Beard Guy
MSU Guy
Cooley Law Guy
Flannel Shirt Guy
Skinny Guy
Big Guy
Military Guy

The object is to find each type of guy and take a picture with them. I don't go for hoochie mama games, but I think this one is innocent and fun enough for a night out with the girls!

Candy Bar

It's bridal week on WETV, and I have been so inspired by all of the beautiful and amazing weddings! One idea I saw at a reception was something I fell in love with, and thought would be great for not just receptions, but any kind of party associated with weddings!

To make a mini-candy bar, simply use assorted clear jars and vases and fill them with candy of your choosing. If you can, buy candy in bulk or when it's 50% off during the holidays, providing it won't be expired by the time you use it. Arrange it all on a table, perhaps with a centerpiece of sorts so tie it all together. When you choose your candy, pick colors that match your event to sweeten things up a bit.

Be sure to have boxes or cello bags on hand, as well as scoops or spoons so people don't have to touch with their bare fingers!

I'm thinking of making one of these for a bachelorette party I'm throwing later this spring. If I do, I will definitely update this with some photos!

Weddings for Dummies

Yes it's true, you can get a small copy of Weddings for Dummies in the dollar bin at Target! It is a nice little guide, and I picked one up for myself. It's 55 pages long - not bad for a buck! Here's what it covers:

Chapter 1: First Things First - Checklists, details, REALITY, and working with a planner.
Chapter 2: Avoiding Those Wedding-Bill Blues - Cost control, contracts, gratuities, and bargain hunting online.
Chapter 3: Creating a Foolproof Wedding-Day Schedules - Transportation for the party and guests, creating a master schedule, and putting everyone on the same page.
Chapter 4: Partying All Around the Wedding - Engagement parties, showers, bachelor/bachelorette parties, bridesmaids' luncheon, and the rehearsal dinner.

In true "Dummies" fashion, the book is yellow and black and goes through what icons are used throughout. This really is a great pocket guide for getting started with your planning, and something you can keep tucked away in your purse!

Style Icons and Fashioning Your Wedding

If you are having trouble trying to nail down the perfect look for your wedding day and the festivities surrounding it, look to your favorite style icon, and think about the overall theme of your wedding.

When I got married, we had a very 1940s/autumn romance theme going on. I love the style of the 40s, so when it came time to get my hair done, I brought this picture of Rita Hayworth with me:
Think about someone's style that you greatly admire, and have fun with your wardrobe. After all, this is the start of a new life - why not kickstart your inner fashion icon? Even a splurge on a new pair of shoes or a coat for when you leave on your honeymoon will add a little bit of glamour to the festivities. My favorite style icons include Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, and Lana Turner.

Think about the whole picture:
  • Skirts
  • Pants
  • Dresses
  • Jackets or coats
  • Shoes
  • Jewelry
  • Accessories
  • Hair
  • Travel
  • Your future spouse!

You may be thinking, "What is the point of this post?" Well, the point is that you feel good about yourself. As you prepare to be thrust into a whirlwind of festivities, you are going to be overwhelmed and so concentrated on the day doing right that you might forget about the fact that you and the celebration of your love with your partner is what is important. So go on, and enjoy every second of pampering that you deserve.

Real Simple Weddings - On Stands Now

Real Simple magazine has a wonderful wedding book/magazine/planner out right now that is simply gorgeous (no pun intended). For $12.95, you will receive a handy booklet full of advice organized into questions by tens, and fun photos from real life weddings. I just love how the real life weddings are laid out into photo squares like this one (again, another poor scan):

I am really in love with the step-by-step honesty of the whole thing. It covers everything from choosing your wedding party to finding a dress to fit your figure. There's even a handy section on photo preservation. I might have to use that one. Can you believe I've been married for a year and a half, and have yet to put a wedding album together? Shameful, I know.

Anyway, if you have $13 to spare, pick this up and use it as your planner. It's really is real simple (and I hate puns).

Carnation Mobile

I have a notebook where I keep photos and craft ideas that I want to hang onto. I fell in love with this carnation mobile and thought it was perfect for many projects, including wedding showers or wedding centerpieces. I think this would look great with flowers other than carnations, or even ornaments of some kind. There are all sorts of possibilities.
What you need:
5 dozen carnations
Upholstery needle
Waxed twine
9-inch embroidery hoop
12-inch embroidery hoop
Glue
Self-adhesive hook
Ribbon
How to make it:
Snip carnations at the base. Single thread upholstery needle with waxed twine, and pul it through the flower from top to the base; knot at the end. Repeat, leaving space between carnations. Make 8 carnation ropes of different lengths. Hang four from the 9-inch hoop and 4 from the 12-inch hoop. Tie 4 lengths of twine to each hoop for hanging. Glue ribbon around each hoop. Attach to ceiling with self-adhesive hook.
Plus, the flowers will retain their shape and color as they dry!
I really want to make one of these. Maybe for one of my parties? Hmmm.

New Jewelry - And More Coming Soon!

I am really excited with the new wedding jewelry I posted today! Plus I ordered some supplies, so even more will be coming soon. I'm not too thrilled with the pictures of this one, but it's hard to capture silver on a white background - at least I think so.

Peach Sparkle Danglers - $12

Enjoy!
