Favor Idea - Teacups and Tea

If you're having a winter wedding, it might be a little chilly depending on where you are. Why not warm up your guests with a the favor of a teacup, complete with tea bag?

Tea cups (or just regular mugs) can be found all over the place for an affordable price, especially if you shop at the thrift store! The thrift store is a treasure trove when it comes to shopping for unique, vintage pieces. The best part about it is that you can get these for under a dollar!

If you want your tea cups to match, try an affordable convenience store such as Target, where you can often find sets or individual cups on clearance.

Include a little tea bag with a sweet note on the inside of the cup, and be creative with the set up on your table top. A white table cloth accented by the colors of each tea cup is simple and sweet.

Purchase tea bags at the grocery store, or try to make your own.

Crafty Ideas for DIY Peeps

Anyone looking to really go DIY with their wedding should scour the pages of Instructables for creative ideas for all wedding projects. These pages are filled with projects just waiting to be completed, whether they are used for gifts, favors, or other accents that make weddings so much fun! Here are some favorite projects of mine, some more difficult than others:

How to Decorate a Composition Journal - Honestly one of the easiest and fun projects out there. Can be used to make planners or gifts!
Handmade Flipbook - I just love the idea of making a flipbook out of wedding photographs! Would be a great gift for a first-year anniversary, since the traditional gift is paper.

Simple Paper Flowers - This project can be used through the whole planning process! Perfect for so many wedding crafts, and afforable. If you're a little offbeat, try using  recycled newspapers or magazines.

Make Your Own Wine - This is a great project to do together and give as gifts. Or, if you are having a religious ceremony, see if you can substitute their wine for yours during communion.

And here's a freebie alert for Briar Press - You can find some great ornaments here for non-commercial use, including some that would make great monograms! There are nearly 600 to choose from here.

Musical Party Favors

From the same MS Weddings book as the other day, I had to share this page! This is from the favors section of the book, and is called "Give the Gift of Sound."

Paragraph reads:
"At at wedding, our senses absorb the details of the day. These favors celebrate the sense of sound. Place a shell in a mesh bag, and your guests will hear the call of the ocean. Silver chimes slip into an aluminum canister trimmed with scallop-edge Ultrasuede and double-face satin ribbon. A CD of love songs is placed in a cardboard sleeve, wrapped in rice paper, and tied with a woven ribbon. A kazoo in a glassine bag is topped with a folded piece of patterned paper and secured with a brass staple."

What I especially love about these favors is a) the easy part ...... and b) the creative part.
The seashell in a mesh bag is probably my favorite one, and it reads "sounds of the sea" on a sweet little tag. That is probably the least complicated wedding favor I have ever seen, plus it is easy to assemble! Perfect for a beach or nautical wedding.

The wind chimes are a unique idea, and you can even make them yourself. I found some very detailed instructions here. If you're looking for instructions that are less involved and include pictures, here is another set.

The kazoo, while unique, should be used with discretion, especially if your wedding guests include a lot of children!

And finally, the mixed CD. I don't think this favor could ever get old. Music is something nearly everyone enjoys.

If you're thinking about those tempting custom M&Ms, check out this hilarious post on StupidWeddingCrap.com that includes a pricing breakdown for how much those little candies cost.

Perfectly Sweet Postmarks

If you haven't picked up a copy of this Martha Stewart Weddings Collector's Edition, you are missing out on some incredible wedding ideas! As you can see from the cover, it boasts 270 ideas for the bride. I haven't flipped through the whole thing yet, but there is something that caught my eye, something that needs to be shared.

This adorable "special delivery" page gives instructions on how to have your wedding invitation postmarked with the name of a romantic city.

The paragraph at the top of the page reads:

"The towns listed below will cancel your stamps for you, imprinting them with their sweet names. Enclose your stamped, addressed invitations (have them weighed in advance for proper postage) in a padded envelope or box, and include a note detailing your request. Address it to "Postmaster," followed by the name of the town, state, and ZIP code (call before mailing). Allow enough time for invitations to be delivered, postmarked, and remailed - ask the postmaster how long it will take."

There is a list of places as well, including Bridal Veil, Oregon, and Harmony, Rhode Island, which were my favorites. After a little researching of my own I found these additional towns:

Love, Arizona (86302)

Sweet, Idaho (83670)

Happy, Massachusetts (02714)

Heart, Missouri (64126)

And for practical jokers:

Hell, Michigan (48169)

Help, Missouri (63787)

Creating a Gift Registry on Etsy

If you are familiar with Etsy.com, you already know there isn’t a gift registry option.
However, you can add items to your favorites for all the world to see. Your guests can go to
your Etsy page and check out your favorites, orwhat you “registered” for.

How to Set up Your Registry
Type www.Etsy.com into your browser. At the top left of the screen, you will see three
links: Login, Register, and Help. Select “Register.” You will be directed to a page to
create your account. Select a username. When you do this, make
sure it’s something your guests can remember, or something easy to spell, such as your last
names combined.

Some examples of usernames:
Jesselisawedding, bondscaseywedding, johnsonregistry

You will be prompted to enter a password. After you register, you will need to check your
email to confirm your account. After this, you are ready to start adding items to your list!

How to Add Items to Your Favorites

The next time you visit Etsy, you should be able to login with your password. Now you are
ready to add items to your registry! You can use the search function on the front
page to find something you are looking for.

When you find something the two of you agree on, you will see a group of links on the left side
of the page. If you want to add the item to your favorites, click on the “Add Item to Favorites”
link with the small heart icon next to it. Ta-da! You have registered for your first item! Continue to do this until you are finished registering.

How to Direct Guests to Your Registry

By visiting the link to your username, which will be http://username.etsy.com (for example,
johnsonregistry.etsy.com), your guests can see your favorites by heading to the “Favorites” link
on the right side of the page. Your guests will be able to see all of your favorites. As things sell
out, the photos will have “Sold” marked on them. Etsy has the option to add an avatar to any
account, so it might be nice to include a photograph of yourselves as your avatar. That way, your guests will know they are in the right place!

When spreading the word about your registry, it will be helpful to provide instructions on how
to setup a buyer’s account on Etsy. Or, you can set up an account for them and give them a
password to take some work out of it. After all, they are shopping to celebrate you!

Beauty Routine - Yes or No?

Most of the beauty routines recommended for brides resemble a celebrity's list for the Academy Awards. Many brides will find that it seems like a whole lot of work for trying to achieve a look that is natural. There are plenty of horror stories out there about last minute moustache waxing leaving a scar on the upper lip to scare you away from trying anything different, but here are some items I recommend adding to your routine that you will love before and after the wedding.

If you have trouble with acne, or even if you don't, try out the all natural Tea Tree Lime Acne Soap from Spa Therapy. Speaking from experience, this soap is incredible. It is smoothing and cooling against the skin. I normally hate soap and absolutely adore this stuff. $4.65 per bar.

More than likely you are going to want smooth legs for the wedding day. If you do, you will be doing yourself a favor when you ditch the shaving cream for shaving soap! I recommend this amazing Blueberry Shaving Soap with Clay, Honey, and Goat's Milk from Spa Therapy. Unlike shaving creams, this soap moisturizes the legs and smells fantastic. Once you start shaving with clay soaps, you will never go back! $4.50 for bar. Be sure to check for other scents!

Naturally, you are going to want fabulous lips for all of the pictures you will be smiling for and all of the kissing you will surely be doing! An exfoliating lip scrub is a great way to get smooth lips that feel great. This Cotton Candy Sugared Lip Scrub by Kristen's Cosmetics tastes great and does the job wonderfully. Plus, it is only $6.50 for 1/2 ounce, and it goes a long way!

Although Dress Green is on a moving hiatus, this shop is full of great items for the skin, especially this body exfoliant. Mint and Vanilla Snow Day Scrub is refreshing and moisturizing on the skin. This scent cools and feels fantastic after use. It is recommended to exfoliate only twice a week, so a big jar goes a long way. Available in a variety of sizes.

The bride isn't the only one who might want to pick up a beauty routine along the way. There are plenty of products out there for men as well!

This Beer Soap Gift Box by South Pacific Body is a great surprise for the groom. For $13, you will receive two bars of beer soap, scented with citrus basil and lime.

Another fun soap for men is this Roll the Green Dice Soap for Men from Sun Basil Garden. You can pick which bar you would like: 2, 3, or 4. A great hint for "getting lucky" and smells great too, as it comes in the scent of Sea Moss. $3.50 per bar.

Wedding Books

There are so many wedding books out there, how do you pick the right one? Do you want a planner, an idea book, or something completely non-traditional? There are many ways to go. When you get engaged, the first thing you may want to do is run out and buy a stack of wedding books, each one detailing a particular facet of the day. I know I did! Instead of doing this, check with your local library. It will save you some money, and let you pour over a variety of wedding books at home on your own time, instead of cramming everything into your memory at the bookstore!

Some wedding books I recommend:

Bridal Bargains by Denise Fields - This book has gone through many editions, and is now on its 8th. This books is affordable and helpful for not only the bargains, but the planning advice as well. They actually have a wedding planner to go along with this book, but I found that the book alone was just as effective.
The Knot Guide to Complete Weddings in the Real World by Carley Roney - This book really is spectacular. They have EVERYTHING! You can't go wrong with The Knot, whether it is the magazine, book or website. They know their stuff, but it can be overwhelming, so proceed with caution!
Martha Stewart Weddings - This is cheating a bit since it's a magazine, but this publication is packed full of fantastic wedding crafts, cakes, and other ideas. Some of them might seem a little expensive to pull off, but you may find yourself inspired by them and come up with something on your own!
These were the top three wedding planning resources I used for my wedding.
