Some Thoughts On Food

It dawned on me the other day that I have never really addressed the subject of food, despite it being a central force in weddings. There is of course the cake, but also the meal. How do you decide to feed everyone?

There are multiple options for serving your guests. If your wedding is casual, a pot luck or picnic style can look elegant and taste great, because you will have most of the control over what goes on the table. You can find a caterer you trust, or enlist your family and friends to create yummy dishes that are sure to be unforgettable.

If you are going the more traditional route and having your food prepared by the reception venue, be sure to taste it first. I have been to some weddings where the food was terrible, and most of the other guests would agree with me. It is important to have an idea of what your guests are like in order to come up with a general menu. For example, be sure there are plenty of options for side dishes if you have vegan guests, or guests with food allergies. This might sound expensive, but most places will cater to having several side dishes with multiple price points for you to choose from.

For example, there is usually a choice of salad, bread, and a starch, like potatoes or rice. With the starch, there are multiple options for how you would like it to be prepared. Do you want baked potatoes or mashed potatoes? Rice with beans, wild rice, or brown rice? These are only a couple of options.

The same goes for the "main course", usually the meat item. Chicken and roast beef are usually the most affordable meats, and sometimes fish is another great choice if it is affordable. Other main course items include some kind of pasta salad or spaghetti.

Whatever you decide, just be sure to taste it first, if possible, or at least have someone you know and trust with the important details taste it.

Another trend in food that I have seen at a few weddings is having a "snack" delivered or prepared for the wedding party and guests that are still dancing in the late hours of the night. Some bridal parties choose to have pizza delivered, while others might choose pretzels, nachos, and other snack foods. If you are going to have hungry and drinking guests, it is something to consider!

All in all, the food is a central player in the wedding day, and surprisingly people will remember it for years to come. Be diligent on what you select, and it will work out just fine.

Strawberries

I am going to a strawberry festival this weekend, and was inspired by the beautiful berry for this post! Enjoy the possibilities! I hope these inspire some fun and creative ideas.

These festive Wedding Berries are pricey, but adorable. If you're crafty, you might be able to re-create these yourself. Found on Beau Coup.com.

This beautiful cake is topped with chocolate covered strawberries and looks like an elegant stack of hat boxes. A fantastic cake idea for all seasons of the year! You can find this cake at Cake Channel. Or instead of cake, strawberry shortcake is another option!

This photo was found here on Flickr as the centerpiece for a garden party. I think this idea is fabulous for an outdoor wedding. It's simple and elegant, and shows off the natural beauty of the strawberry nicely!

If you're really serious about the strawberry theme, this fantastic Strawberry Dress with Tie and Boat Neck Collar is fun option for bridesmaids, or a more casual bride. Plus, at $65, the price is nice. From Sky Creation.

New Poll: Betty or Veronica?

Since this is a wedding blog, I found it highly appropriate to put this question out there about the good 'ol Archie comics. Being a fan of Archie, I always thought he belonged with Betty. After all, she is the sweet, all-American good girl. Classic. Veronica is the uptight rich girl seductress.

To the right, there is a small poll box asking who you think is the right girl for Archie.
